GABOR DORNYEI and KORNEL HORVATH |

For me it was the definite uncertainty of the combination of Hungarian heritage with a passion for all things Latin. Not being able to place Gabor or Kornel into a genre at first glance is what had me curious and intrigued, anxious to get into the Marshall Amplification room and begin having my questions answered 1 by 1. Well, that and the fact that he is the sole drummer on the 9 month long 'Thriller' tour!!! |

From the first note it was obvious to the eye and ear that there was an amazing sense of understanding, connection and constant communication between Mr Dornyei and his wingman percussionist Kornel Horvath. The saying that 'if you don't enjoy what you are playing you can't expect your audience to" could have quite rightly been their team moto! From previous experiences I have seen and heard drummers with very big kits and all the additional components and in my opinion not use everything to its full potential. Music is a language that everybody speaks and the sheer fact that Gabor and Kornel's english was very limited was just one more reason why what was put across in their music was so well received. They somehow managed to get the balance between performance for an uneducated audience and musicianship for an intermediate audience very right. One element didn't suffer because of the other. After the class during my conversation with the gentlemen it was clear that the gratitude, appreciation and interest in them shown by us Tech students was overwhelming. The groups closing words to us were to keep an open mind and a humble heart, ask questions and learn from each other. A truly inspiring 120 mins. Miles Pascall
