Martin Atkins came into Drumtech recently to bring his highly acclaimed Business and Touring Master class to students of the schools.
This master class was highly beneficial for any tour aspiring students of the school to attend, as Martin’s previous drumming credits include stints with Public Image Ltd (PiL), Killing Joke, Nine Inch Nails and Ministry to name a few. Over the years, Martin has studied life on the road and the do’s and don’t’s of touring life, and has since released his “Tour:Smart: and Break The Band” book, which has received rave reviews from readers and critics alike.
Martin spent two hours mostly talking to students about where to tour, and how to tour properly, as well as helping establish a fan base. Some ideas suggested included starting off by creating just 100 CD’s so they can be branded as limited edition in the long term future, as well as other unique ideas such as Scratch and Sniff Vinyl’s. He went on to explain the importance of T-Shirts and Merchandise, as these are where most touring bands will be making their money. He also gave many more great suggestions to touring that many students would not have thought of.
He also showed students why the bands on his CV were such ground breakers, as he gave the students a few groove and polyrhythm demonstrations on the drum kit, and answered questions. Students at the schools would like to thank Martin for coming down and giving a master class that will no doubt prove to be beneficial for their long term futures.
